Alex Clouser- Solving the Problem Assignment 8

In my previous post, I detailed the opportunity for data collection to be made less scary for consumers and more personalized and accurate for businesses. I believe that a solution to this problem of data collection is to make data collection more indirect through things such as polls or holiday gift guides or other things of the like. I believe that this would benefit my "who" of companies that rely on consumer data because it would lessen the stigma around collecting data from consumers and would make consumers feel more comfortable giving their data to companies. This solution would also make given data more accurate because it is indirectly gathering data instead of directly asking for specific data, which people are more likely to lie about when asked directly. I believe that this solution would greatly help companies and that they would embrace the idea, in turn increasing their future marketing and other business endeavors through the data collected with this new solution.

  1. If I am not mistaken, companies already try to do this. Not only that, but they fail to do this as well. You probably have something in mind to do it better, which makes me excited to read your future posts. I’m sure when you start making these polls etc. that you will solve the inherent problem related to data collection.

  2. Polling/ surveys are definitely something the average internet user tend to ignore these days, so it would be interesting to see what you can do to combat this. This is also a field where you will have to keep a close ear to the streets of Washington with. Laws can change your profits drastically, especially if certain companies like Facebook are banned from selling data altogether.

  3. You must keep in mind of how people nowadays do not pay to mind about polling, especially for people who frequent the internet more than they should. Try to make polling surveys more appealing or find another way to obtain the data you need because it would be a hassle to use polling in my opinion.
